A $27.95 Congressional Investigation

After the dust had settled, it was determined by the Government Accounting Office that $2.8 million was spent by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the investigation of the so-called Valeria Plame Affair. Besides the costs, the investigation effectively took hundreds of FBI and Judicial man hours and spanned 37 months. The end result was the conviction of Scooter Libby for a "lying to the FBI" charge. The Special Prosecutor, Fitzgerald, was unable to establish any guilt by the Bush Administration that was related to the primary case of outing Valerie Plame. The "outer" was actually a Democratic friend in Richard Armitage. So, no charges were ever brought against him. (Politics!)

Now, suddenly, the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have decided to throw all that time, money, and, especially, the "findings" out the window. Instead, they want to impeach Bush or Chaney or both and indict Karl Rove based $27.95 book by former Press Secretary, Scott McClellan (See Full Story).

Obviously, we don't need to ever appoint another Special Counsel to investigate anyone or anything and waste millions of dollars. Instead, Congress should just act on every book that hits the Amazon or New York Times best seller list.
